Changes in body temperature of critically ill patients submitted to bed bathing: a crossover clinical trial

نویسندگان

چکیده

ABSTRACT Objectives: to compare tympanic and axillary body temperature values of critical patients before after the traditional dry bed bath. Methods: this is a randomized, open crossover clinical trial conducted with 50 adult patients. All received both types bathing. The were measured at beginning end baths. Wilcoxon test or paired Student’s t was used. Results: elderly male predominated. There no significant difference between medians during bath (p=0.707) (p=0.101). Axillary means reduced baths (p=0.001), being 36.12ºC in 35.92ºC Conclusions: bath, regardless method used, caused reduction patients’ temperature.

Clinical implications of temperature curve complexity in critically ill patients.

OBJECTIVE In certain physiologic systems, disease is associated with a loss of complexity in system's output. We test the hypothesis that, in critically ill patients, there is an inverse relation between the complexity of the temperature curve and the clinical status. We also consider whether complexity analysis of the temperature curve may have prognostic value. DESIGN Prospective, observati...

Head-of-bed elevation in critically ill patients: a review.

Clinicians are confused by conflicting guidelines about the use of head-of-bed elevation to prevent aspiration and pressure ulcers in critically ill patients. Research-based information in support of guidelines for head-of-bed elevation to prevent either condition is limited. However, positioning of the head of the bed has been studied more extensively for the prevention of aspiration than for ...
